Austin Mayor Steve Adler proclaims September 14 The SCORE Austin Celia Bell Entrepreneur Awards Day”

SCORE Austin presented its first ever SCORE Austin Celia Bell Entrepreneur Awards 2017 to three local business owners for their exceptional dedication to starting, growing and nurturing a small business or non-profit organization.

The awards reflect the values of SCORE to help start and grow small businesses, as well as the creativity, dedication and passion of SCORE Austin mentor Celia Bell, who has helped start and grow more than 300 small businesses across greater Austin.

Winners were announced at the AWARDS LUNCHEON on Thursday, Sept. 14, at the Hilton Austin. More than 175 community business leaders joined SCORE Austin to celebrate the success of these outstanding entrepreneurs and to applaud American small businesses – the backbone of the economy. And Austin Mayor Steve Adler proclaimed Sept. 14 as “The SCORE Austin Celia Bell Entrepreneur Awards Day.”

The winners and finalists in each category are:

Small Business, Prize: $5,000
Winner: Round Rock Children's Therapy Center, Melissa Balthazor, owner
Finalists: Antonelli's Cheese Shop - John Antonelli, owner . Organics by Gosh - Phil Gosh, owner

Non-profit, Prize: $1,500
Winner: The Adventurers Academy of Lifelong Learning, Diane Mackey, owner
Finalists: Texas Folk Life, Charlie Lockwood - Executive Director. Resale Shop benefiting the Boys and Girls Club of Gatesville, Lisa Steward - Director

Start-Up, Prize: $1,500
Winner: Toybrary Austin, Liza Wilson, owner
Finalists: CookLearnGrow, Lori Hinze - owner. Sex Therapy Online, Rhiannon Beauregard - owner

All finalists were presented with a video about their business created by SCORE Austin and shown at the luncheon. 

The Awards are made possible through a generous grant from Local University (LocalU) – a national series of SEO seminars – which together with Google, gave the SCORE Austin chapter an ongoing grant/scholarship to help grow small businesses mentored by SCORE Austin.

“The Celia Bell Entrepreneur Award winning businesses embody the spirit of entrepreneurialism and perseverance that is the backbone of the US economy,” said SCORE Austin president Bob Paino. “SCORE Austin is proud to recognize these hard-working and creative business owners, and to help hundreds of small businesses throughout the year start and grow through education and mentoring.”

“Austin has always been a special place for small businesses,” said Mike Blumenthal of LocalU, which provides a national series of SEO and internet marketing seminars. “We are incredibly excited to honor the spirit of entrepreneurialism that is embodied by SCORE Austin mentors like Celia Bell, who has been an inspiration to us and many others in the greater Austin area.”
