Social media can be a powerful tool for small businesses if you know how to use it. Setting goals and knowing how to track those goals are the first step, after making the accounts. If you create social media accounts but don’t set goals you won’t know if you are making a difference.

Increase Brand Awareness

This is the most easily accomplished and tracked goal for social media. There are various metrics to use to track this but the most common are number of followers, reach and interaction on posted content. Every social media channel has their own analytics that provide these numbers.

Drive Traffic to Your Website

After gaining followers and building brand awareness comes the next step. Getting people to go from your social media channels to your website. The best way to do this is to publish unique content that will make people click through to your site.

Generate Leads

There are many ways to capture leads from content on social media. There can be forms that people fill out if they are interested in something. It can be people interacting with ads or participating in contests. These leads can then be targeted by new ads.

Ultimately, the goal is to convert the traffic from social media to the website into sales. This is the final stage of this revenue tunnel. In order to turn your audience into paying customers requires getting the audience in front of your product or service.
