Duane Gran IT Director in the Finance Sector Tom advised me on several occasions through SCORE and he always was able to help me see the bigger picture or uncover blind spots in my analysis of a business venture. Experience in the Following Areas: With over thirty years experience in non-profit organizations and US government positions in the development arena, I have spent much time and effort in mentoring and supporting people who are trying to build a better life for themselves through small business development. My strengths are in financial and grant administration, budgeting, strategic planning, human resources, training and logistics. I can provide training both to individuals and in classes on various administrative and accounting topics such as understanding and preparation of financial information, accounting systems, cash management, inventory management, and procurement procedures. About a third of my work was overseas in developing nations and this has given me a clear understanding and facility with building multi-cultural teams and an ability in addressing cross-cultural matters. Working with interns at nonprofits and with Peace Corps volunteers has been the best part of my worklife and has always given me great pleasure. I believe I have been helpful and will be again with SCORE. Working with the SBA's and SCORE's program Boots to Business is one the first activities I have participated in with the Austin SCORE chapter along with working with a small non-profit in Austin "EducationAllocation".

Professional Background: The last twelve years before I retired in March were been spent working for three non-profits, first, two years with Mercy Corps supporting an economic development project funded by USAID in Kosovo and Serbia, then seven years with World Wildlife Foundation in Washington DC and finally with International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) in Arlington VA. This work followed two years in Wyoming with USDA-NRCS after seven years working with the Peace Corps in the Solomon Islands, Armenia, Bulgaria, with the final two years in Washington DC. Before that, I worked in Romania for the Holt International Children's Foundation. And, before that I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Botswana, Africa working with small businesses created to help support vocational trade schools located around the country.I supported such developing businesses as a construction company supporting a bricklaying school, a panel-beating/automotive repair business supporting a mechanics training school, and a school uniform manufacturing business supporting a sewing school. Before volunteering for the Peace Corps I worked within industries such as Boeing, ROLM Corporation before it was acquired by IBM, and more than one startup computer equipment and software companies, none of which survived for more than a few years. I have also worked in retailing in both department and smaller stores. I even worked for the Girl Scouts national organization for seven years. This narrative probably has you wondering how old I am. I am an active 70 years old ready to give back.
